Duster Trailer: J.J. Abrams’ High-Stakes Crime ThrillerDuster Trailer: J.J. Abrams’ High-Stakes Crime Thriller

The first teaser for Duster, an action-packed crime series from Max, has arrived—reuniting writer-producer J.J. Abrams with Lost star Josh Holloway.

Co-created by Abrams and LaToya Morgan, the show is set in 1972 and follows the first Black female FBI agent (played by Rachel Hilson) as she heads to the Southwest to take down a rising crime syndicate. To do so, she enlists a reckless but skilled getaway driver (Holloway), setting the stage for a high-stakes game of survival against a dangerous underworld, led by Keith David.

The teaser hints at a series packed with action, danger, and an R-rated mix of sex, drugs, and violence—marking a departure from Abrams’ previous work.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Abrams shared the show’s origins: “I had this image of a phone in the middle of the desert and a car driving up. A guy gets on the phone to find out where he’s meant to go next. It implied some kind of crazy intrigue… LaToya and I started talking about who this guy might be. I always knew there would be an FBI agent who showed up, but it wasn’t until we explored her story that the twists and turns really took shape.”

Morgan emphasized the series’ nostalgic appeal, saying, “What excited me most was the chance to create something that felt like a throwback, something you don’t really see on TV anymore. It’s a fun pastiche of action and humor, and we got to dive in with both feet.”

With its gripping premise, throwback aesthetic, and an all-star cast, Duster promises a wild ride when it premieres on Max on May 15.
