US Lowers down Import Tariffs on IndiaUS Lowers down Import Tariffs on India

The United States has reduced its planned import duties on India from 27% to 26%, according to an official White House document. The updated tariff rate will take effect on April 9 as part of Washington’s broader strategy of implementing reciprocal trade measures against several nations, including China, the United Kingdom, and the European Union.

During Wednesday’s announcement, the administration presented a chart outlining the updated tariff structure. The chart showed that India imposes tariffs of up to 52%, factoring in elements such as currency manipulation and trade barriers. In response, the US will now apply a reciprocal tariff of 26%, slightly lower than the previously stated 27%.

“Earlier, the White House documents showed a 27 per cent duty on India. However, as per the latest updates, it has been revised downwards to 26 per cent.”

Industry analysts noted that the one-percentage-point reduction is unlikely to significantly influence trade dynamics. “One per cent would not have much of an impact,” they commented, suggesting the change is more symbolic than substantial.
