After a short break from acting, Aamir Khan is set to make his long-awaited return to cinema with Sitaare Zameen Par, a spiritual successor to his acclaimed 2007 film Taare Zameen Par. Directed by R.S. Prasanna, the emotional drama is scheduled to release on June 20, 2025, according to a report by Pinkvilla.
Initially eyeing a May 30 premiere, Khan has reportedly shifted the release date to secure a clearer window at the box office. “Aamir is looking to capitalise on the open run in the month of June. Initially, he was contemplating to arrive on May 30, but a June 20 release is giving him a two-week clear run at the box office,” a source told Pinkvilla.
The film’s title evokes strong memories of Taare Zameen Par, a landmark project in Khan’s career that spotlighted learning disabilities and child psychology. Sitaare Zameen Par follows similar emotional threads, but with a fresh narrative—this time focused on a group of specially-abled children being mentored by an alcoholic coach, played by Khan, as they train for the Paralympics.

The cast includes Darsheel Safary—who played the iconic role of Ishaan in the original—and Genelia Deshmukh in key roles.
“Aamir strongly believes in the content of Sitaare Zameen Par, as it rides on his formula of laughter-emotion-drama. He was looking for a good window and has found one with a June 20 release. The entire marketing plan of this social dramedy is locked,” the source added.
As part of the promotional rollout, the trailer is expected to debut in theatres alongside Ajay Devgn’s Raid 2, which releases on May 1. “The idea is to communicate the date directly to the cinema-going audience, and Raid 2 is a film which is expected to do well at the box office,” the source clarified.
Following the underwhelming performance of Laal Singh Chaddha, Khan is placing significant faith in Sitaare Zameen Par. However, he remains busy on multiple fronts. He is reportedly in talks for a comedy with Rajkumar Santoshi, a superhero film with Lokesh Kanagaraj, and is expected to finalize his next directorial venture after this release. He is also producing Lahore: 1947, a period drama starring Sunny Deol, set to arrive later in 2025.
