Popular actress Erica Fernandes, known for her roles in Kasautii Zindagii Kay and Kuch Rang Pyaar Ke Aise Bhi, has opened up about the harsh realities of the entertainment industry. In a recent podcast, she candidly discussed the casting couch, the industry’s loneliness, and her journey of self-discovery, including her decision to relocate to Dubai.

On Taking a Career Break

Despite her success in television, Erica admitted she felt unfulfilled, prompting a major life shift. “It’s been two years since I moved to Dubai. Sometimes, you reach a point where everything seems right, but you don’t feel satisfied,” she shared.

She also reflected on how the COVID-19 pandemic allowed her time for self-introspection. “COVID gave many people time to reflect. I had my breakdowns and melting points, but through them, I found myself. I could finally meet eye-to-eye with me,” she revealed.

Erica did not shy away from addressing the casting couch and exploitation in the entertainment world. She warned aspiring actors about the superficiality of the industry. “I’m sorry, but this industry is very hollow. It looks shiny from the outside, but inside, you are alone.”

She also mentioned the existence of WhatsApp groups where people share personal experiences, hinting at the hidden struggles within the industry.

On Staying True to Herself

For Erica, maturity and experience have reshaped her perspective on life and success. “I am sorry, bahut khokla hai ye industry. It looks shiny from outside, but you won’t have anybody in the inside. You will feel alone.”

She also spoke about the importance of maturity and experience in navigating the industry, saying, “Maturity comes with experience. My outlook towards life has changed, how I handle things are different.”
