Actors Nayanthara and Vignesh Shivan have transformed a sprawling 7,000 sq. ft colonial-style bungalow in Chennai’s upscale Venus Colony into an elegant, multi-functional home studio. The revamped space not only reflects the couple’s refined taste but also blends heritage charm with modern aesthetics.
Designed by Nikhita Reddy of The Storey Collective, the studio balances functionality and comfort while preserving the architectural legacy of the original structure. The interior design incorporates teak wood, woven fibers, linen fabrics, and rattan, creating a warm and earthy ambiance throughout the space.
Traditional wooden sculptures, curated artefacts, and delicate pottery accentuate the rustic elements, spotlighting India’s rich craftsmanship. High ceilings, glass facades, and open layouts allow abundant natural light, enhancing the sense of openness and serenity.
The bungalow features a conference room, multiple meeting areas, cozy lounges, bedrooms for their core team, and a landscaped backyard. One of the standout features is the serene terrace café lounge, which offers breathtaking city views and serves as a preferred gathering spot.
“I absolutely love how Vignesh’s studio has turned out,” Nayanthara shared, highlighting her favorite corner of the home. The terrace lounge is tastefully decorated with Naga chairs, a coarse rug, a brass planter, and a repurposed antique door that now functions as a coffee table, set against calming lime-textured walls.
Amazingly, the transformation of the entire property was completed in just 40 days—underscoring the couple’s clear vision and dedication to crafting a space that seamlessly merges personal comfort with professional creativity.
The bungalow retains its colonial heritage while incorporating modern rustic elements. The interiors feature an earthy palette with materials like teak wood, woven fiber, linen fabric, and rattan, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. Traditional artefacts, wooden sculptures, and delicate pottery adorn the space, emphasizing local craftsmanship and adding to the home’s rustic charm.
