For years, Android users have followed a simple, familiar motion, swiping up to answer calls and down to decline. But that may soon change. With its latest beta update (Phone v166.0.735169223), Google is testing a left-right swipe gesture instead.
Now, instead of the traditional up-down movement, users will need to swipe right to answer and left to decline, according to a report from Android Authority.
At first glance, this might seem like a minor tweak. However, for millions of users accustomed to the old gesture, this change could take time to adjust to. The big question remains, “Why fix something that wasn’t broken?”

Google’s Ongoing Experimentation with Call UI
This isn’t the first time Google has experimented with its call screen design. Previous tests even included UI elements resembling iOS, though not all changes made it to the final version.
While it’s unclear whether this new swipe system will become permanent or remain just another test, if rolled out, it will affect millions of Android users on devices like Google Pixel, Xiaomi, and OnePlus.
Mixed Reactions from Users
Some users may find the left-right swipe more intuitive, while others might see it as an unnecessary change. Ultimately, the success of this update will depend on how natural and user-friendly the new gesture feels over time.
