Following the phenomenal success of Kalki 2898 AD, director Nag Ashwin has confirmed that the highly anticipated sequel will begin filming in December 2025. The sci-fi mythological epic, which premiered in June 2024, featured Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan, Deepika Padukone, and Kamal Haasan, amassing over ₹1,180 crore worldwide.

Addressing fans’ concerns about Prabhas’s limited presence in the first installment, Ashwin explained that Kalki 2898 AD prioritized world-building and character development, particularly for Sumati (Deepika Padukone) and Ashwatthama (Amitabh Bachchan). However, he reassured audiences that the sequel will shift its focus to Karna, played by Prabhas.

“The second part will have more of Prabhas, as it will be majorly centred around the Karna and Ashwatthama characters,” Ashwin revealed during a recent media interaction ahead of the re-release of his debut film, Yevade Subramanyam.

Bhairava’s Journey Continues in a High-Stakes Sequel

In Kalki 2898 AD, Prabhas portrayed Bhairava, a bounty hunter from the dystopian city of Kasi, driven by self-interest and survival. Alongside his AI companion, Bujji, he navigated perilous missions in a world on the brink of collapse. While the first film introduced audiences to the post-apocalyptic setting, the sequel promises a deeper exploration of Bhairava’s evolution and his connection with Ashwatthama.

The announcement of Kalki 2 has ignited excitement among fans, especially with the promise of a more action-packed narrative and a stronger spotlight on Prabhas. As Nag Ashwin gears up for the next chapter in the Kalki saga, expectations are soaring for another cinematic spectacle.
