Record-Breaking Shreyas Iyer Shines Bright in IPL 2025!Record-Breaking Shreyas Iyer Shines Bright in IPL 2025!

In IPL 2025, Punjab Kings captain Shreyas Iyer has made history by reaching 6,000 runs in men’s T20 cricket. This significant milestone was achieved during Match 5 of the 2025 Indian Premier League season against the Gujarat Titans at the renowned Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Iyer secured this achievement with his 26th run of the innings, further solidifying his status as one of India’s leading T20 batsmen. In that match, he also delivered an impressive performance, scoring 97 runs off just 42 balls.

A Remarkable Achievement Iyer accomplished this feat in his 224th T20 match, showcasing his remarkable consistency in the format with three centuries and 37 half-centuries. Notably, over 3,100 of these runs have come from the IPL, highlighting his influence in the world’s premier T20 league. Additionally, Iyer has contributed 1,104 runs in 51 T20 internationals for India, emphasizing his importance at both domestic and international levels.

“Sarpanch Saab making his mark! 🦁” — Punjab Kings tweeted, celebrating Iyer’s achievement.

Record-Breaking Domestic Performance Iyer also holds the record for the second-highest individual score by an Indian in T20 cricket. In February 2019, he scored an explosive 147 off just 55 balls for Mumbai against Sikkim during the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, which included an impressive 15 sixes. Although Tilak Varma surpassed this record last year with a score of 151 for Hyderabad against Meghalaya, Iyer’s innings remains a significant part of Indian domestic cricket history.

A High-Value Acquisition The 29-year-old’s talent and leadership were recognized during the 2025 IPL auction, where he was acquired by Punjab Kings for a staggering ₹26.75 crore, the highest bid for a player this season. Appointed as PBKS captain in January, Iyer is expected to bring his experience and stability to the team. He is one of only eight captains to have lifted the IPL trophy, having led Kolkata Knight Riders to victory in 2024.

An Inspiring IPL Journey Iyer’s IPL career began in 2015 with the Delhi Capitals, where he is one of only five players to score over 2,000 runs, totaling 2,375 runs in 87 matches. Remarkably, 16 of his 21 IPL half-centuries were scored while playing for the Capitals. In 2022, he transitioned to Kolkata Knight Riders, and by 2024, his leadership and impressive strike rate of 146.86 were crucial in KKR’s title-winning season.

From his humble beginnings to leading two different IPL franchises to the finals, Iyer’s T20 journey continues to inspire, with this latest milestone adding another significant achievement to his illustrious career.
