Elon Musk has never been one to shy away from bold predictions, and in a recent interview with Fox News’ Bret Baier, he voiced his growing concerns about the future of civilisation. The billionaire entrepreneur and head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) believes that falling birth rates and America’s weakening global influence could trigger a catastrophic collapse.
Birth Rates Keeping Musk Awake at Night
When asked what worries him most, Musk responded without hesitation. “There’s a lot of things that I suppose I worry about. And some of these things will seem esoteric to people,” he admitted. But at the top of his list? The dramatic decline in birth rates across the U.S. and beyond.
“Unless that changes, civilisation will disappear,” he warned. “Nothing seems to be turning that around. Humanity is dying.”
He pointed out that the U.S. recently hit its lowest birth rate ever, while South Korea faces an even grimmer future. “That means in three generations, Korea will be 3 or 4 percent of its current size,” Musk explained.
His deep investment in the issue isn’t just theoretical. Musk has fathered 14 children with multiple women, including musician Grimes, Neuralink executive Shivon Zilis, and conservative journalist Ashley St. Clair.
America’s Role in Holding Up Western Civilisation
Beyond birth rates, Musk fears that America’s decline could spell disaster for the entire Western world.
“America is the central column that holds up all of Western civilisation… If that column fails, it’s all over. You can’t run off to New Zealand or some other place. It’s over. So either we strengthen that column and make sure America is strong, and we’ll be strong for a long time, or that roof’s coming down.”
Despite his dire warnings, he remains hopeful. “There is potential for a great future as long as America remains the land of freedom and opportunity,” he stated. He also praised President Donald Trump and the DOGE team for their efforts in maintaining these values.
DOGE’s Fight Against Government Waste
As head of DOGE, Musk is leading an aggressive cost-cutting campaign aimed at reducing bureaucracy and saving taxpayer money. According to him, the department’s efforts have already saved Americans $130 billion, averaging $807.45 per taxpayer.
Under DOGE, several government initiatives—such as diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs—have been eliminated, along with consulting contracts and redundant agencies.
Critics argue that DOGE wields excessive power and is making sweeping cuts without proper oversight. Musk dismissed these concerns outright. “Everything I do is under extreme scrutiny. So there’s not an action I can take that doesn’t get scrutiny six ways to Sunday,” he said. “Every action that the DOGE team does is public… It’s the most amount of transparency there’s been about any government thing ever.”
Musk’s Longstanding Worries About the Future
Musk’s warnings about Western civilisation’s fragility aren’t new. In a recent conversation with Trump, he reiterated his belief that America’s decline would have irreversible consequences. “If the central pillar of Western civilisation that is America falls, the whole roof comes down, and there is no escape.”
Despite identifying population decline as a critical issue, Musk has notably avoided advocating for increased immigration as a solution. Instead, he continues to champion higher birth rates within Western nations.
Regardless of the debate surrounding his views, Musk remains focused on his mission—speaking out, expanding his family, and driving government efficiency, one budget cut at a time.
