New Delhi is set to host the second edition of the Khelo India Para Games (KIPG), with over 1,300 athletes competing across six disciplines from March 21 to 27. The games will take place at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Indira Gandhi Stadium, and Dr. Karni Singh Shooting Range, offering a world-class platform for emerging para-athletes.

Paralympic champions Sumit Antil and Devendra Jhajharia welcomed the participants, encouraging them to seize this opportunity to hone their skills and aim for Olympic success.

“I am really happy to see that the Khelo India Para Games are back. I wish the emerging athletes all the very best. It’s a platform for both the upcoming athletes and the experienced ones to compete and enhance their skill set,” Antil said.

Jhajharia, now the president of the Paralympic Committee of India, emphasized the significance of KIPG in shaping future champions. He noted that several medalists from the 2024 Paris Paralympics had previously competed in KIPG, a trend likely to continue towards the 2028 Los Angeles Paralympics.

“The facilities provided to these athletes conform to international standards. Last year as well, around 7-8 medals were won in the Paralympics in Paris by athletes who participated in Khelo India as well. We are sure that athletes who compete in this tournament will be winning many more international medals and make the nation proud,” he said.

Rising Stars and a Legacy of Excellence

The inaugural Khelo India Para Games in December 2023 played a pivotal role in shaping India’s Paralympic success. Among its standouts was Jagdish Parmar, a visually impaired long jumper from Gujarat, who became a sensation with his gold-winning 4.59-meter jump in the T11-13 category. He returns this year, eager to build on his success.
