As Virat Kohli rejoins Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) for IPL 2025, he has put an end to speculation surrounding his international cricket future. Dismissing reports suggesting he might retire after the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, Kohli affirmed he has no immediate plans to step away. The former Indian captain stated that he would only consider retirement once he feels he has helped build a legacy of dominance lasting at least a decade.
Despite being in the latter phase of his illustrious career, Kohli remains fully committed to the sport, emphasizing that he now plays purely for the love of the game rather than chasing milestones.
“I am not playing for the achievements anymore. I am playing just for the joy of the game,” he shared during an RCB event in Bengaluru.

Kohli Reveals Why He’s Stepped Back from Social Media
Kohli also addressed fans’ curiosity about his reduced social media presence. Despite having over 270 million Instagram followers and 66.1 million fans on X (formerly Twitter), he rarely engages with cricket-related content outside of brand endorsements.
Following India’s ICC Champions Trophy 2025 victory, Kohli’s social media featured multiple promotional posts but lacked any personal acknowledgment of the team’s triumph. This left many fans disappointed, as they had anticipated a celebratory post from the cricketing icon.
Explaining his stance, Kohli emphasized that social media does not influence his personal life and that he has become indifferent to online reactions.
“I don’t post on social media much because technology without a goal is destructive. Posting on social media doesn’t make anything different in my life. People’s comments don’t have any reaction on me, so I don’t have to post,” he remarked.
With his focus now shifting to IPL 2025, Kohli is set to once again don the RCB jersey as the team kicks off its campaign against defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at Eden Gardens on March 22.
